S1 or Uppland's Signal Regiment

As early as the 1680's, the regiment obtained the land that was named Polacksbacken. When the the authorities introduced compulsory military service in 1901, they built camps on the training field. The soldiers abandoned the area in 1985, when they lowered the battle flag for the last time. Now students study in the old baracks, and Uppsala University is taking care of the area.
